Jonathan Adler Coming to Georgetown

I've long been a fan of Jonathan Adler; his cheeky and whimsical housewares and fabric designs are, well, cheeky and whimsical.  I was happy to read that he will be opening a retail location in Georgetown this May.  It will be right in the heart of the shopping district, taking the place of the former GAP Kids, so this should be good news for retailers and consumers alike.  Washingtonian recently spoke with Adler about the new store, and Adler had this to say about DC:
Washington is groovy. I've always loved Georgetown--the architecture, the vibe, all the glamorous politicos, students, and creative types. I've been looking for the perfect spot in Georgetown for years, and I finally found it.
Looking forward to welcoming you to 'hood, Jonathan.

Christmas 2011

I such a nice, fun, relaxing Christmas in Mississippi this year (technically, since this is January 2, it was last year).  Even though my sister and I live in the same city now, it was great to both be home together with our parents.  Per tradition, we had decorated our tree over Thanksgiving, so it was nice to return and see it again.  I had a whirlwind two weeks before I headed home, so I needed a break!  There were tacky sweater parties, JLW events, a book signing, and the annual Dirty Santa party that my girlfriends and I have.  After I had not one but THREE different gifts stolen from me, I ended up with my own gift--it was fortuitous that I bought a gift that I actually would have liked to receive!

Also, I am super excited about my new Kindle Fire that Santa brought me for Christmas!  It's really cool, y'all--and it will save me mucho room on my bookshelf.  Unfortunately, since I don't yet own my dream home, or at least a home with an awesome library (at this point, I'd take a mediocre library), I appreciate having the option to buy books electronically and take them with me wherever I go.

That said, I'm currently reading One Thousand White Women for my book club.  I'm about halfway through and really enjoying it so far.  I'll do a review once I finish it, and the next book on my list is The Paris Wife.

I leave you with some images of my ideal home library.  You're welcome.

Lilly Pulitzer Home

I hope everyone had a happy and fun Easter weekend!  (Since you asked, mine was lovely--church, brunch, and Jesus Christ Superstar. It was on TCM, I was on the couch; it just made sense at the time.)

I might be behind the times, but apparently Lilly Pulitzer is coming out with a line of home furnishings.  I have mixed feelings about Lilly Putlizer, the brand, but I liked several of the Lilly Putlizer Home pieces (here and here).  In particular, I love the ottoman below (also featured in this month's Real Simple); however, it seems like someone crafty (I'm looking at you, Mary Grace and Design*Sponge-rs) could probably pull this off on her own, without paying $599+.

Want

As High Point Market recently concluded, lots of bloggers have been posting their favorite showrooms and design trends featuring at the annual marketplace.  While I'm not currently decorating my home (or anyone else's), and since I haven't yet figured out how to cultivate a money tree (mine keeps dying from over-watering), I still have fun looking at the pictures and pretending.  And then I saw this table (bar?) and realized that I must have it (in my pretend house).  I love the rustic lines and texture of the table with the simple addition of a metal basin, perfect for planting or chilling.

This piece is from Century, and overall I really enjoyed the rest of their showroom(s).  Pictures above and below from Coco + Kelly.

Green Is Good

If you pay attention to interior design trends, you may have noticed the resurgence of malachite over the past several months, as featured in shelter magazines and on design blogs.  While the stone's color is a beautiful, marbled emerald green, I tend to associate it with the decade that brought us Miami Vice, Jem & The Holograms, Members Only jackets, and all things neon.  However, I've noticed that I don't hate the stone/pattern when used as an accent, such as for a jewelry box or pillows.  Not sure I could make the leap to wallpaper or an area rug, and certainly not a dress, but it's growing on me.

Black & White

I am loving the crisp black and white fabric and furniture that are the focal point of this breakfast nook; even better are the bookshelves on the back wall and the bright pops of color in the artwork to on the left.  My only question is how long it would take me to spill something on those white chairs!  Also, I love the light fixture, but I don't know that my symmetry-loving eye could handle an off-center chandelier.  What say you?

No Cubicles Here

I'm inspired just looking at the creative workspaces at the Urban Outfitters headquarters in downtown Philadelphia.  Although this particular article is almost four years old, it's a neat read about the Urban Outfitters brand (which includes Anthropologie and Free People), the workspace, and the rationale behind it.  I only wish my office had this much color and natural light!

Industrial Pink

I really appreciate a space that combines different aesthetics for an eclectic look that still makes sense.  If you were a fan of the now-defunct Domino, or if you currently read Lonny or Rue, then you know what I mean.  I love this industrial loft (via) that is outfitted with some decidedly feminine touches without going over-the-top-girly.  The contemporary touches like the stainless steel dining table and the neutral wall color keeps the bright pink (honeysuckle, perhaps?) grounded and in proportion with the other design elements.

Spades

Photos of the Spades's (Andy and Kate, natch) have been making the internet rounds of late, but I love all things Kate Spade so I'm posting them, too.  Enjoy!
