Memorial Day Weekend

The weather was beautiful this weekend, and on Sunday I went to the Georgetown Flea Market.  The flea market had temporarily relocated to Arlington due to construction on the school where the market is located, but gladly it is back in Georgetown now.  I ended up with a pair of earrings, and I'm having non-buyer's remorse because I sort of wish I'd bought one of the vintage cameras in the pictures below.  Maybe another Sunday...

Each Memorial Day Weekend, the Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Rally is held in DC to call for the government's recognition and protection of Prisoners of War and soldiers who are Missing in Action.  Basically, a bunch of bikers ride through the city in honor of American war heroes.  The cause is noble, but it does make for some interesting pictures.

After the flea market and biker sightings, I headed to Dean & Deluca.  I wanted to buy half of the store, but since I'm poor, I made it out with a coffee.  It's a fun store to wander around and buy goodies when I have the money.

Bodega

As I posted yesterday, last night I met some friends for dinner at Bodega, a Spanish tapas restaurant in Georgetown.  Although Bodega has been in the neighborhood for close to two years, it was my first time eating here.

A friend of mine who recently moved to DC invited a group of friends to dinner, and since friends invited more friends, we ended up with a table of 12.  None of us really knew one another, so it was a fun night of meeting new people; tapas places are great for a group since everyone is encouraged to share.

our table

A tablemate and I shared the Paella Marinera con Bogavante (paella with monkfish, clams, mussels, scallops, shrimp, and lobster), which was delicious.  I love seafood but had never tried paella before, so I'm happy to say that I really enjoyed it.  Others at the table shared the Paella de Pollo y Chorizo (chicken and chorizo sausage) and the Paella Valencia (chicken, pork, duck, fava beans, and artichoke hearts).  I'd definitely recommend Bodega for either a small or a large group; the service was decent, but the food was great and the atmosphere was fun and lively.  (Pictures are from the website.)

Friday

It is the Friday of Memorial Day weekend.  I'm not traveling anywhere this weekend, but I plan to find myself a fun time in DC.  I'm meeting friends tonight in Georgetown for drinks, then heading to dinner at Bodega, a Spanish tapas restaurant on M Street.  Happy weekending to all.

Anne Taintor

I remember when I first started seeing Anne Taintor napkins, magnets, and accessories in stores.  Her graphics are decidely 1950s/1960s retro, but the sentiments are witty and modern.  Because I posted vintage photographs yesterday, I had Anne's products on my mind.  She has a talent for matching seemingly sedate images with quirky and sharp commentary; they make me laugh, and pretty much sum up my mood on a Friday before a long weekend.
